Bangladesh Secures Asia Cup Final Spot After Dramatic Super Over Win Against India
The Chronify
In a thrilling and dramatic match, Bangladesh overcame India in a Super Over to secure their place in the Asia Cup Rising Stars final. After a series of dropped catches and crucial mistakes, Bangladesh almost lost the game in the final over. India, chasing a target of 179, needed 16 runs off the last six balls.
Bangladesh’s Rakibul Hasan bowled the crucial final over, conceding just 12 runs, but a series of fumbles by the fielders gave India a lifeline, allowing them to tie the match. However, in the Super Over, pacer Ripon Mondol turned the tide for Bangladesh. He bowled brilliantly, dismissing Jitesh Sharma and Ashutosh Sharma with yorker-length deliveries. With India losing both their wickets in the Super Over, Bangladesh needed just one run to win, which they achieved despite an initial setback.
Earlier, Bangladesh set a challenging total of 194/6, thanks to explosive innings from Habibur Rahman Sohan (65 off 46 balls) and SM Meherb (48* off 18 balls). India’s bowlers struggled, with Gurjapanit Singh picking up 2 wickets for 39 runs.
India’s top-order batsmen, including Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Priyash Arya, started aggressively, but Bangladesh clawed back with key wickets and tight bowling. Despite multiple misfields, Bangladesh held their nerves in the Super Over to claim victory.
Bangladesh will now face the winner of the second semifinal between Sri Lanka ‘A’ and Pakistan Shaheens in the final on November 23.
