AI Tool Developed with IIT-Bombay to Identify Illegal Bangladeshis, Says Fadnavis
Maharashtra Chief Minister Unveils Efforts to Address Illegal Immigration and Predicts BJP Victory in Municipal Elections
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced the development of an AI tool in collaboration with IIT-Bombay to identify "illegal Bangladeshis" in the state. Speaking on January 13, 2026, Fadnavis revealed that the tool has a current success rate of 60% and is part of the government's drive to tackle the issue of illegal immigration. The state government intends to continue its efforts even after the upcoming elections.
Fadnavis also predicted that the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance will secure victories in 26-27 out of the 29 municipal corporations in Maharashtra's elections on January 15, 2026. He highlighted that the election campaign is focused on development and infrastructure, making it the primary agenda for the BJP's growth in the state.
On the political dynamics in Maharashtra, Fadnavis commented on the ongoing alliance between Raj Thackeray and Uddhav Thackeray, stating that Raj Thackeray would be the biggest loser in the coalition. He also emphasized that the BJP's rise in state politics would continue, marking a shift in Maharashtra's political landscape.
