Bangladesh May Join Pakistan–Turkey–Saudi Defence Alliance After 2026 Election

Post-election government expected to decide on Dhaka’s inclusion in an emerging mutual defence framework reshaping regional security dynamics.

Bangladesh is widely expected to consider joining a developing defence alliance involving Pakistan, Turkey and Saudi Arabia following its general election scheduled for February 12, 2026, according to diplomatic and security sources. Ongoing military engagements and high-level talks have intensified speculation that Dhaka could formally align with the bloc once a new elected government takes office.

The potential move follows the Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement signed between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia in September 2025, which establishes collective security commitments in the event of external aggression. Turkey is also reported to be in advanced discussions to join the arrangement, potentially transforming it into a trilateral defence framework with growing influence across South Asia and the Middle East.

Bangladesh’s interest has reportedly increased since the political transition in 2024, with defence cooperation between Dhaka and Islamabad expanding through joint training, intelligence coordination and senior-level military visits. Recent discussions have also included possible procurement of defence equipment and closer air force collaboration.

Sources indicate that a draft mutual defence agreement between Bangladesh and Pakistan is under preparation, modeled on the Pakistan–Saudi pact. However, final approval is expected to rest with the next government, which will review strategic priorities after the election.

Analysts say Bangladesh’s potential inclusion could diversify its security partnerships and support its long-term military modernization goals, though the decision carries geopolitical sensitivities and domestic political considerations. The post-election period is likely to be decisive in determining whether Dhaka formally joins the emerging alliance.
