Bangladeshi Youth Dies After Being Detained by BSF, Body Returned
Rabiul Islam’s Death Follows Arrest at Jhopurtek Border, Authorities Dispute Circumstances
The body of 35-year-old Rabiul Islam, who died after being detained by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) at the Jhopurtek border in Chapainawabganj, has been returned to his family. The body was handed over on the evening of January 5, following a flag meeting between the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and BSF, with both parties present.
Rabiul, a resident of Narayanpur Union's Satrashia village, was reportedly caught by BSF while crossing the border with smugglers in the early hours of January 4. BSF officials claimed that Rabiul had epilepsy, and after being detained, he suddenly fell ill due to seizures. Despite being taken to the hospital, he passed away.
Following two rounds of flag meetings on January 5, the body was officially transferred after legal procedures and post-mortem. The incident has raised questions regarding the treatment of detainees and the cause of death.
