Bangladesh's Apparel Exports to the US Surge Amid Trade Uncertainty
US Remains Bangladesh’s Top Export Destination with a 15% Yearly Increase in Garment Shipments
The United States continues to be Bangladesh's largest export market, with a significant year-on-year increase in apparel exports. According to the United States Department of Commerce, Bangladesh's garment exports to the US reached $7.08 billion from January to October 2025, marking a 15% increase compared to the same period in 2024.
The rise in exports is largely attributed to American buyers placing large advance orders. Local garment manufacturers have reported that US importers made bulk purchases ahead of anticipated tariff changes under the Trump administration's proposed reciprocal tariffs, aiming to avoid higher duties in the future.
Bangladesh's ready-made garment (RMG) sector, which is central to the country’s export economy, has benefited from this strategy, helping to mitigate the impacts of global inflation and shifting trade policies.
Exporters argue that the strong performance highlights Bangladesh's competitiveness in price, production capacity, and supply reliability, especially as US retailers search for alternatives in the face of changing global trade dynamics. However, analysts warn that future growth in exports will depend on the evolution of US trade policies and whether the proposed tariffs are enacted. Despite uncertainties, the latest data reflects Bangladesh’s sustained dominance in the US apparel market.
