Muslim Labourer Assaulted in Bihar After Being Mistaken for "Bangladeshi"
Police Launch Investigation Amid Concerns Over Mob Violence and False Nationality Allegations
A Muslim labourer, Noorshed Alam, was brutally attacked in Bihar's Madhubani district after being falsely labelled a "Bangladeshi" by his assailants. The attack, which left Alam with serious injuries, was sparked when the accused claimed to have found phone numbers from Pakistan and Bangladesh on his mobile phone. Despite the attackers’ allegations, the police later confirmed that no objectionable material was found on the device.
Alam, who works as a mason, said the assault began after he hesitated to chant the slogan “Jai Shri Ram,” leading to suspicions about his nationality. He believes the attack was motivated by his Muslim identity, with the assailants repeatedly questioning him about his origins.
The police have swiftly acted, filing an FIR against the accused on charges of attempted murder. Two suspects have been identified, and a special team is working to apprehend others involved in the incident. The authorities have reiterated that Alam is an Indian citizen from Bihar.
This case highlights growing concerns about mob violence fueled by baseless nationality claims, following a recent incident in Palakkad where a Dalit migrant worker was lynched after being questioned about his nationality.
