Trump Orders Plan for Potential Greenland Attack, Threatens NATO's Collapse
U.S. President’s Greenland move could trigger a major rift with NATO.
U.S. President Donald Trump has instructed senior commanders to develop plans for a possible military strike on Greenland, a move that could severely jeopardize NATO's unity. The directive comes amid Trump's longstanding desire to assert control over the autonomous Danish territory, citing security concerns and the need to counter Russia and China.
According to a report from the Daily Mail, Trump has tasked the Joint Special Operations Command to draft a strategy for a potential assault on Greenland. However, the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff have expressed strong opposition, calling the idea illegal and suggesting that such a move would be disastrous.
Trump's push to control Greenland has been further fueled by his political ally, Stephen Miller, among others, who were reportedly inspired by the recent U.S. military action in Venezuela. They argue that securing the Arctic island before Russia or China takes action is imperative.
A diplomatic source warned that such an attack could lead to NATO's unraveling, suggesting that if Trump were to push forward with his plan, it could force European members to abandon the alliance. This bold stance could be the most effective way for Trump to achieve his goal of dismantling NATO.
Meanwhile, European NATO members are reportedly discussing the deployment of troops, ships, and aircraft in Greenland to prevent Trump's actions and safeguard the Arctic region.
