US Revokes a Record 100,000 Visas in Major Security Push
Trump Administration Strengthens Border Controls with Unprecedented Visa Cancellations
In a significant move to bolster public safety and national security, the Trump administration has revoked over 100,000 visas from foreign nationals in less than a year, marking a record high. According to the US State Department, the cancellations target individuals accused or convicted of various criminal offenses, including assault, theft, and DUI.
This action reflects a 150% increase in revocations compared to 2024 and is part of a broader push to tighten border controls. Tommy Pigott, Principal Deputy Spokesperson for the State Department, emphasized that protecting American citizens remains a top priority for the administration.
The administration's heightened focus on border security is aided by the Continuous Vetting Center, a newly established system designed to monitor visa holders throughout their stay in the US, enabling quicker responses to criminal charges or convictions.
This policy shift has sparked ongoing debates in the US over immigration, national security, and the balance between public safety and legal immigration pathways.
