The Jamaat chief’s affidavit reveals details of his wealth, including assets, income, and investments.
Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman has reported holding Tk60,76,497 in cash in his election affidavit for the upcoming 13th parliamentary election. The affidavit, which was submitted to the Election Commission (EC), provides a comprehensive breakdown of his wealth and assets.
According to the document, Shafiqur’s annual income amounts to Tk3.60 lakh, primarily sourced from agriculture and other businesses, with total assets valued at Tk1,49,99,474. Among his listed assets, the Jamaat chief owns a duplex house situated on 11.77 decimals of land, valued at approximately Tk27 lakh. Additionally, he owns 2.17 acres of agricultural land, which is valued at Tk17.71 lakh.
In his affidavit, Shafiqur also reported investments amounting to Tk27,16,880 million in shares, bonds, and other securities. His household items, including furniture and appliances, and a vehicle collectively value Tk6.5 lakh. The affidavit further reveals a bank deposit of Tk4,90,263 and an income tax payment of Tk30,000 for the 2025-26 fiscal year.
Additionally, the Jamaat chief’s legal status is outlined, noting that of the 34 cases filed against him, 32 have resulted in acquittals or reliefs, while two cases remain pending before the High Court.
Under electoral law, candidates are required to submit detailed affidavits containing 10 categories of information with their nomination papers, all of which must be made public. The Election Commission has warned that legal action could be taken if any discrepancies or falsehoods are found in the affidavits after the election.
As the deadline for nominations approaches, more than 2,500 candidates have submitted their papers for the 300 parliamentary seats in the 13th national election. Following the scrutiny process, the final list of candidates will be published on January 20, with electoral symbols allocated the following day. Voting, alongside a national referendum, is scheduled for February 12, 2026.
