Court Approves Bail for Taherima Jannat Surabhi Following Legal Proceedings
A court has granted bail to Taherima Jannat, known as Surabhi, who is implicated in an extortion case. The ruling was made by Additional District Judge Amit Kumar De at 6:15 PM on Monday, January 5. The confirmation of her bail was shared by Gajipur Court Inspector Abdul Mannan.
Earlier in the day, Surabhi was granted a two-day remand by the Senior Judicial Magistrate Court-2 of Gajipur after a hearing. This led to protests by the National Student Force, with its leaders and activists gathering outside the court under the banner of 'Uprising Student-Worker-People.' They chanted slogans demanding Surabhi's release and threatened a nationwide blockade if she was not freed immediately. The protests grew intense after the court's remand decision, causing panic in the court area.
The case against Surabhi was filed on November 26 of the previous year at Kaliakair Police Station in Gajipur. She was arrested late on December 25 at her residence in the Gopalpur Tekpara area of Tongi, Gajipur, where she resides with her family. Surabhi, who hails from the area, is the daughter of Selim Mia.
After her remand was approved, Surabhi expressed her anger, stating that her remand was granted without any investigation report being submitted to the court. "They gave me remand without an investigation," she said, showing dissatisfaction with the process.
